Tasting Notes

„Meandro” Do Vale Meão, 2013

zdjęcie

Deep purple with pinkish rim. The nose shows a mixture of ripe red and black fruit led by raspberry, blackberry and cherry. Floral and spicy with black pepper and some wood notes. Bags of ripe fruit on the palate. Fresh, easy to drink with some grip and texture.  The wine is expressive and approachable. Recently tasted 14 year old Meandro and it was surprisingly good but for me this wine is all about the fruit and recommend to drink it while young. Roast beef or simply grilled steak would be the perfect match.

Quinta Do Vale Meão, 2013

Perfectly opaque with no rim variation. Intense nose of black jammy fruit with violet, vanilla and dark chocolate. Big, rich yet elegant with loads of juicy fruit, grippy tannins, refreshing acidity and perfectly integrated alcohol. This wine was only bottled last month but it already gives you a lot of pleasure from drinking it. Meao 2013 shows a huge potential for ageing so give it few years to get comfortable in the bottle. If you like it fruit-driven drink within the next 5-7 years, for more complex aromas wait another 5-10 years. Delicious with loin of venison served with red wine reduction, macerated cherries and celeriac puree.

Fonseca Vintage Port, 2007

Deep ruby almost inky colour. Very fruity with jammy forrest fruit, violets, liquorice, smoke and dark chocolate. Full bodied, rich with grippy yet ripe tannins and good freshness. Will continue to improve for another 15-20 years. Perfect with chocolate based desserts or blue cheese like roquefort or stilton.
